The department of physics of this college was established in 2004 with the introduction of UG course B.Sc Physics. Later it was upgraded to Post Graduate Department with the sanction of MSc Physics in the year 2018. We also provide under graduate complementary course for B.Sc Chemistry students. There are 7 permanent faculties in the department and 3 lab assistants in contract basis.
The student’s strength sanctioned by the University of Calicut in under graduate course is 30 whereas that for the master’s level is 12. Over and above the sanctioned strength we used to accommodate around 48 students in each under graduate course with inclusion of the marginal increase stipulated by the university according to the demand.
For the under graduate students of B.Sc Physics, complementary courses are Mathematics and Computer Science. We offer Amateur Astronomy and Astrophysics as the open course for the final year under graduate students of other departments. In the Masters level we have special papers in Astronomy as well as Advanced Condensed matter physics.
We have a well-equipped, spacious undergraduate and post graduate lab which has all the needy experimental instruments to fulfil the needs of the students to acquire their scientific and experimental skill. We have also a small computer lab with 10 systems where the students do their computer programming classes and also have full time internet accessibility.
The department is also Wi-Fi enabled and the students can access the internet at free of cost.
