The department of English was started in the year 1975 with the inception of the college itself. Besides the common courses in English for all undergraduate programmes, the department started offering a full-fledged bachelor degree programme in the year 1992. It made a larger stride in its growth when it started offering MA English Language& Literature programme in 2012. In the year 2018, the department was again uplifted into a research department offering PhD in English Language and Literature. Currently, there are two research guides in the department and 6 scholars are pursuing their research. There are 8 faculty in the department.

Activities of the Department

1. Research forum

This forum conducts programmes that promote the research skills of students and scholars. Dr. Suhail Abdul Rub and Dr. Faisal are the coordinators.

a. Sessions on Research Methodology

b. Sessions on Documentation

c. Presentations of topics by students and scholars

d. Introducing reputed journals and other sources of research

2. Excell

Excell acts as a platform for students to make various kinds of presentations on topics of academic and non academic interest. The focus will be largely on introducing literary works, authors and trends. This programme is usually held on Tuesdays. The coordinator is Ms. Sangeetha.

3. Speakers’ Forum

This is a platform for students to hone their speaking and presentation skills. This meets on Tuesdays. The coordinators are Mr. Muhammed Saleem and Ms. Haifa Bini.

4. NET Coaching

This is a platform for NET aspirants. On behalf of this, sessions are held on all papers. Besides the teachers in the department, experts from other institutions will also be invited for sessions. The coordinator is Mr. Muhammed Saleem.

5. E-Magazine

An e-magazine with articles from teachers and students will be published this year. This is meant to sharpen the writing skills of teachers and students. The coordinator is Ms. Shakeela.

6. Authors’ Day Special

To help students keep up with the latest advancements in the field of literature, pertinent write-ups and articles are displayed on the department notice board. The coordinator is Ms. Anupama.

7. Anglo Galleria

This offers a platform for students to showcase their creative and artistic skill. Various programmes of entertainment and education are held in Anglo Galleria. Ms. Anupama is the coordinator
