The Department of Hindi was started with Pre-Degree course . After separating the Pre-Degree from Colleges the study of the language was limited as second language for B.A English, BSc Physics, Chemistry,BBA and BSc Mathematics
It is the language of Common man in India. Actually Hindi is the face language of India representing our culture and custom. Hindi language doesn’t have any hatred to other languages and It is a SARVAGRAHIBHASHA accepting words from Sanskrit, native and foreign languages.
In PTM Govt College, Hindi is taught as Second language along with Malayalam and Arabic Learning a Second Language is a great way to improve one’s versatility, career oppurtunities and cultural horizons. Being multilingual helps improve multi tasking, make one’s memory better and as well improves listening and hearing skills. Other than these learning Hindi language and literature help students of Kerala to know the depth of the language and various customs and culture through vivid literature. The syllabus of Second language under Calicut University is designed perfectly covering the main genres of Hindi Language and Literature. Second language Hindi is a Common course offered to BA/B.Sc for 4 semesters and for BBA Course it is offered for 2 semesters. In the southern parts of Kerala Hindi was not much common due to cultural and social aspects but the impact of globalization and pertaining to the increased use of Hindi in day to day life now the number students taking Hindi has increased in the Colleges under Calicut University
